BMRB Database
BMRB's mission is to collect, archive, and disseminate (worldwide in the public domain) the
important quantitative data derived from NMR spectroscopic investigations of biological macromolecules.
A brief description of the submission process is presented below. For more detailed descriptions of
the purpose and processes of BMRB, see BMRB Mission Statement and
BMRB Aims and Policies.
Current Database Release
The BMRB database contains NMR data derived from biological molecules. These molecules include,
but are not limited to, peptides, proteins, and nucleic acids. NMR data about hemes, cofactors,
ligands, polysaccharides, or any other biologically relevant molecules are accepted. The data should
be assigned on an atom-specific basis and can be deposited
using
ADIT-NMR

- Residual dipolar couplings
- Homonuclear NOEs
- Heteronuclear NOEs
- T1 (R1) NMR relaxation data
- T2 (R2) NMR relaxation data
- T1rho (R1rho) NMR relaxation data
- Order parameters
- Dipole-dipole relaxation data
- Cross correlation data
- Hydrogen exchange rates
- Hydrogen exchange protection factors
- NMR-derived pH transitions (pKa's)
- NMR-derived D/H fractination factors
- Theoretical (calculated) chemical shifts
- Spectral density factors
- Time-domain data
Other forms of data are accepted with sufficient description.
Validation Process
Submissions are checked for completeness (mandatory data), correct syntax, and internal consistency. Potential
typographical errors and outliers in the data are brought to the attention of the corresponding author. The author
has the option of making corrections or declining suggestions. Before a file is released, BMRB staff members add and
verify links to other databases.
Data Export
All data currently are exported only in NMR-STAR format and in an ASCII version of
relational database tables.
All exported data have the author(s)' name(s) attached
to the entry and list the primary publication associated with the BMRB file. Users are requested to acknowledge
BMRB in publications: a sample acknowledgment is available from the BMRB web site.
Correction or Revision of Entries
Authors are encouraged to update their BMRB files to take new results into account. Entries may be deleted (from the
actively-accessed database) at the author's request. The BMRB staff may modify a file to correct any obvious error or
upgrade it to maintain consistency with the data format. Any BMRB-initiated changes that involve data values will be
brought to the attention of the author. As entries are updated, a statement describing the revision, the date, and
the author of the revision will be added to the revision history loop located near the beginning of the file.
